The academic libraries have incorporated in recent years huge amounts of eBooks to their catalogues. The use of this new technology is causing important changes in the ways to incorporate the eBooks into the catalogues, in the technical processes, in the relationship with the user or modifications in the maintenance and management of the collections.

With this work, we intend to know what is happening in academic libraries in Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom, the United States and Brazil with the eBooks in relation to the assigning of subject headings and classification numbers. For this purpose, a web survey was prepared to obtain the information and opinion of the directors or technical processes managers of almost 500 academic libraries.
